The Industry sees an increasing cod stock in Greenlandic waters. No dedicated cod survey has been made in Greenlandic waters, more detailed distribution and size structure data for cod is needed. Can we collect this data on fishing vessels using trawl cameras and AI?

Key features and challenges

Challenges: Identify vessel, installing in-trawl camera system, collect image data, handle high densities of cod.

Main activities and solutions

  1. identify vessel
  2. install camera system
  3. collect image data (cruise)
  4. develop detector
  5. develop a tracker
  6. estimate body length
  7. build interface for onboard data presentation

The CS will develop:

  1. Real-time DSS for the vesseloperator to optimise catchefficiency, reduce catch ofunwanted species/sizes and fuelconsumption, and
  2. Software describing and geo-reference density and sizestructure of cod to support fisheries monitoring .
